I reached another milestone this week by qualifying to deliver the one day Mental Health Champions course, as a MHFA England Instructor Member.
When running large teams in a demanding industry, I expected everyone to perform at their best, all the time. But that isn't realistic, never mind humanly possible. Life happens. Nowadays, I'd care more about my team's long term wellbeing and collective results, than consistently high performance from each individual. I'd train every team member as a Mental Health Champion, one in ten as a Mental Health First Aider, and build a healthy, kind and caring group of human beings who look out for each other during the ups and downs of every day life. I believe that's how teams succeed, perform their best and are most productive.
I love the Champions course because it delivers the incredible content and materials from the two day MHFA course, in two 3.5 hour live sessions, so can be completed in one day.
As an MHFA Champion, you get:
An understanding of common mental health issues
Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness
Ability to spot signs of mental ill health
Skills to support positive wellbeing
Everyone who completes the course gets:
A certificate of attendance to say you are an MHFA Champion
A manual to refer to whenever you need it
A quick reference card for the Mental Health First Aid action plan
A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health
Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities. I limit numbers to 16 people per course so that I can keep people safe and supported while they learn.
Cost: £200 per person
